Reed’s Organic Farm is a nonprofit regenerative farm and animal sanctuary located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Our location is uniquely suited for our mission in our community, which is to become essentially a community hub for organic healthy food and an educational resource. Our vision involves working with underserved community members through programming and workforce development as well as helping to build a healthier food system with focus on nearby Atlantic City. We are eager to begin the next phase of operations with a new commercial kitchen and market being built in our pole barn.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are a small company and therefore every role including that of the owners, managers, and hourly employees is multifaceted and team-based. As a cook at our farm you will work directly with the chef and other kitchen staff in preparing and executing baked goods, sourdough breads, homemade ice creams, soups, salads and other prepared foods and grab-and-go items. You will also work on food preservation and management of food inventory in order to better utilize the produce we grow and minimize overall food waste.

In your role as a cook you will be expected to take instruction from the chef but you are also encouraged to think creatively and offer your insights and opinions on food related issues and work methods as they arise.

Your daily responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • washing and preparing of produce, herbs & fruit

  • preservation, pickling, & canning

  • carrying out recipes for baking, sauces, dressings, etc.

  • cooking for events using not only conventional kitchen equipment but also wood burning ovens, grills, smokers, and general outdoor open flame cooking

  • working and writing prep lists

  • helping to manage stock and inventory of food and other kitchen goods

  • general daily cleaning & organizing of the kitchen areas

Here are some expectations and desired qualifications for this position:

  • This is a full time position and for a normal week you will be expected to work a minimum of 5 days, 40 hours per week. During our busy season overtime will be a possibility.

  • Previous general kitchen, restaurant, and/or catering experience is strongly desired. For those with less experience, we are willing to teach you if you posses a strong work ethic and have an eagerness to learn about food and cooking.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform 8+ hours standing/walking in a production environment

  • We are a team-based farm and you will be expected to work and collaborate with others on a day-to-day basis.

  • We are a small company, but we are growing. We are seeking not only those who desire hourly work for fair compensation, but also those seeking to make a career in a farm, culinary, or other food related trade.

COMPENSATION

This position is : hourly, $15/hr + commensurate with experience
